Many of us are staying at home and practicing social distancing due to Coronavirus. My friends and I talked about how the COVID-19 pandemic feels unreal, like a dystopian novel. This is the first time our generation has dealt with something like this. On a large scale, workplaces have closed, large events have been cancelled, and the streets and sidewalks are basically empty. The world has changed with hopes to #flattenthecurve and prevent the disease from spreading at a higher rate. So, do your part and stay inside! Here are 10 things to do while social distancing.

1. Phone a friend

Stay in contact with your loved ones during this time. A simple phone call saying you were thinking about them means so much right now. Facetime calls are also great!

2. Read a book

Now is the perfect time to read all of those books on your “to read” list. Books are entertaining and they are also good distraction from reality. If you have a library card, download the Libby app for access to thousands of free ebooks and audiobooks.

3. Watch a documentary

Take this time to watch a good documentary on Netflix. This will stimulate your mind and maybe even inspire you to dive into deeper research on the documentary topic.

4. Try a new hobby

Is there something new you’ve been wanting to try but haven’t had the time? Maybe it’s sewing, or calligraphy or chess. Give that hobby you’ve been putting off a try because who knows, you may fall in love with it!

5. Workout at home

Get up and move your body. Your body (and mind) will thank you for staying active during this time of social distancing. Plus, there are no excuses since many fitness companies are offering workout classes for free.

6. Start spring cleaning

Now is a great time to disinfect your home. Separate your home into sections and clean a different section each day. Make sure to do a deep clean and tackle spaces that you may normally miss.

7. Journal your feelings

There has been a lot of uncertainty going on and your thoughts may be running wild. Grab your pen and journal and write down everything you are feeling. Doing a brain dump on paper can help you process your emotions. Don’t forget to also write down the things you are grateful for.

8. Play a game

Whether it’s a video game, a board game, or a card game, you will definitely be entertained for hours. Personally, I recommend playing the Sims 4 for endless fun!

9. Organize your closet

Go through and “Marie Kondo” your wardrobe. Figure out which pieces bring you joy and which pieces do not. Refold everything neatly and if you’re feeling fancy, maybe color coordinate your clothes. Sell the items you don’t want to Thred Up – they’ll send you a free bag for shipping and even pay you for select pieces.

10. Learn a new recipe

Sick of eating the same food every single day? Well, try playing around in the kitchen and make something different. Pinterest has a ton of fun recipes to try. If you aren’t the best cook, check out Cheff Massimo Bottua’s IGTV where he is offering free cooking classes called “Cooking Quarantine”. Did I mention he has a Michelin-Star?
