I am trying to embrace a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle, especially when it comes to my fashion consumption. In America, we are bred to be consumers as early as childhood. I have spent so many years of my life blindly purchasing items without ever giving them any consideration. When I was in high-school I would spend countless hours online shopping on Forever 21’s website. I slowly stopped shopping at fast fashion stores like Forever 21, due to me becoming a broke college student. I replaced fast-fashion with thrift shopping only because I wanted to save money.

I recently watched the documentaries, The True Cost and River Blue. These documentaries made me realize that quitting fast-fashion not only will save me money, but it can lead to helping the environment and helping stop exploitation of garment district workers. Either way, both documentaries forced me to stop mindlessly shopping and really think about my impact as a consumer.

With that being said, I wanted to share a photo of this outfit that I picked up from a recent clothing swap I attended. Not only was this outfit free, but it is sustainable as well. Clothing swaps are a great way to keep clothes out of landfills and keep to your budget!
