For the past month, I’ve been using products by Samudra Skin & Sea. Specifically, I’ve been using their sea soap and clay mask. Before getting into the review, let’s talk a little about the company.

Samudra Skin & Sea is a female-owned, all-natural, sustainable skincare line based in San Francisco, CA. Their products are made from locally sourced, hand-harvested, unprocessed seaweed. Did you know seaweed nourishes the skin because it’s packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals?

The founder, Shilpi Chhotray, has a background in ocean conservation and marine science. She figured out a way to incorporate seaweed’s amazing properties into high-quality skincare products. With her eco-conscious background, Chhotray created a brand that is committed to ocean conservation and reducing plastic waste in oceans. It is very clear that Samudra Skin & Sea cares for the planet based on their partnerships with ocean advocacy groups and their eco-friendly product design (reusable glass jars & biodegradable packaging).

Wild Seaweed Sea Soap for Body & Hair
Samudra Skin & Sea Wild Seaweed Sea Soap

SEA SOAP ( ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆)

Can we talk about how beautiful this bar of soap is? I didn’t even want to use it at first because it looked like a work of art. I love the sandy sea like texture on the side of the soap. When I stopped gawking at its beauty and finally used it I was very pleased with the results. The soap is very moisturizing and has a smooth & silky feel. If you’re curious, some of the ingredients include avocado butter, seaweed, and other organic oils. There is not much of a scent to it, which I prefer especially because my skin is super sensitive. Overall it lathers nicely and feels pretty luxurious. The soap is on the pricier side at $12 a bar. But this soap makes me feel like I’m at a spa.

This bar can also be used as a clarifying shampoo. To my surprise shampoo bars actually work pretty well on my natural hair. But I have not had the chance to use this bar on my hair. Once I try it out I will let you know the results.

CLAY MASK ( ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ )

This mask also comes in beautiful packaging. The clay, seaweed, & charcoal powder mixture works wonders. To use, just add a little bit of water or coconut oil, stir it together, then apply it to the face. After 15 minutes the mask dries super tight. It feels a little weird because you can’t really move your face. But once the product is washed off with warm water, the results are pretty immediate. I love that my skin feels super clean and smooth after using this mask. This product costs $28 for 50 mL, but a little goes a long way. I typically use half a teaspoon every other week.
