2. What inspired you to create your business?

TheNOBO was built to give more opportunities to users looking to recreate value out of the luxury products in their lives. On our platform, a user can use the value of their luxury products to acquire another product, through our trade feature. Swapping, or bartering online, just became a reality!

3. What’s the key to a successful thrift business?

As a marketplace, our business operates within the framework of supply and demand dynamics. It is essential for us to have a consistent user base that contributes to our inventory, as well as buyers who express interest in the products. In our unique case, we also cater to traders who fall into both categories. These traders list their products (supply) and subsequently leverage the approved and authenticated items to acquire “new for them” products (demand). This distinctive feature adds an extra layer of value to our platform.

4. What has been your best thrift find personally and/or for the shop?

To celebrate Earth Day, we collaborated with San Francisco’s most stylish couple, the Graylor’s, for an exclusive closet drop event. Their generous contribution consisted of over 60 exquisite pieces from renowned designers such as Berluti, Celine, Saint Laurent, Balmain, Gucci, and many others. Among the standout items, my personal favorite was a pristine white sequin Rick Owens Men’s Blazer, in flawless condition. Shop more from the Graylor’s closet drop, here.

5. What’s your thrifting secret?

Buy only what you love, AND twice a year…Purge. It’s important to not only extract from the circular economy but also to return any pieces that are no longer bringing you joy, to a thrift store, vintage store, or resale marketplace, like TheNOBO!

6. Any tips for aspiring resellers?

  • Authenticate: Have robust and clear authentication protocols, to source luxury product only from trusted sellers, and mitigate against the sale of counterfeit items.
  • Price your items appropriately: Be sure to price your items competitively, taking into account the condition of the item, its rarity, and demand.
  • Be honest about the condition of your items: Be transparent about the condition of the items you sell, including any flaws or damage, to avoid negative feedback and returns.
