If you saw my recent Farmers’ Market Haul you probably already know that I used to think farmers’ markets were super overwhelming and intimidating. Something about them has always stressed me out. Luckily, I have learned some tips to make the farmers’ market less stressful and more enjoyable. Here are 5 Tips for Shopping at your local Farmers’ Market.

Here are some beginner’s tips for shopping at your local Farmers’ Market:

1. Bring Cash

Don’t be the newbie who runs out of cash within the first 10 minutes of shopping. Make sure you go to the bank and grab an ample amount of cash before going to the farmers’ market.

2. Go Early or Go Late

Arriving early has its perks, one of them is being able to avoid the crowds. But going late has its perks too. Going later in the days means the items may have already been picked through, but the perk is many farmers tend to offer discounts to avoid having to pack up any leftover goods.

3. Bring Your Own Bags

Avoid single-use plastic by bringing your own tote bag to carry goodies in. It’s also a good idea to bring your own produce bags.

4. Ask Questions

You may see some unknown fruits and veggies when shopping. Don’t be afraid to ask the farmers for samples or recipe ideas. You can even ask specific questions about the farm.

5. Be Prepared

Much like grocery shopping, having a list of what you want to buy is super helpful. Knowing beforehand what foods are in season and knowing what recipes you’d like to make will save you time and help you avoid stress.
