I attended the Tap x Summit Venice Beach Cleanup this past weekend and it was such an eye-opening experience.

@findtap Booth at Beach Clean Up

Before we started the clean up, Alison Teal and Heal the Bay educated us about the importance of our oceans and shared some shocking facts about our waterways and pollution.

Did You Know?

  • 70% of our oxygen in the atmosphere is produced by marine plants
  • 80% of our marine pollution comes from inland sources (mostly from storm and sewage drains)
  • 83% of our tap water and 93% of our bottled water contains microplastics
  • 100% of our plastic will not biodegrade in our lifetime

After hearing the facts, we were all motivated to start cleaning the beach. To be honest, when we first arrived, the beach looked extremely clean. But once we started looking for trash it was everywhere. We found lots of plastic straws, micro-plastics, and even random things like dental floss!

My modeling agent, Val, found so many straws!

3 Ways You Can Reduce Your Plastic Waste

Carry a reusable bottle: The average American uses 19.5 single-use plastic water bottles each month. Carrying a reusable bottle would knock this number down to 0

Take the #Drinkdifferent pledge: Make the pledge to go 30 days without drinking single-use plastic water bottles. Share the challenge to social media and be sure to tag @findtap on your post(s)

Download Tap App: The amazing Tap app shows where your nearest water refill station is located. This app makes using a reusable bottle and sticking to the #drinkdifferent pledge super easy
