Let’s talk skincare. Ever since making the decision to live a more sustainable lifestyle, I’ve been trying to find the perfect sustainable skincare products. This was tricky, because I have super sensitive skin and I’m allergic to most plants. Over the years, I’ve noticed most sustainable and clean skincare products use plant-based ingredients, which can be a hit or miss for me.

After lots of trial and error, I finally found a sustainable skincare routine that is perfect for my dry, sensitive skin. Here are the products I’m currently loving.

Note: My focus is more on cruelty-free products with sustainable packaging and less on products with clean ingredients.

1. Eye Makeup Remover

My go to sustainable makeup remover is Elate Cosmetic’s Revive Eye Makeup Remover Balm*. First of all, I’m in love with Elate’s packaging. This product comes in a recyclable aluminum jar inside of a beautiful bamboo case. At night, I apply this product to a reusable makeup wipe and gently remove my make up. It says it’s an eye makeup remover, but I find that it works well to remove my full-face make up. This product leaves my skin soft, moisturized, and makeup free.

2. Facial Cleanser

Bar soaps are a great sustainable option for facial cleanser. Lately I’ve been using Ethique’s Bliss Bar. It is perfect for my dry, sensitive skin, and the sample size (pictured) comes in a cute heart shape. The sample size is $5 – so you can try the product to see if it works before committing to the full-size bar. This soap is gentle, creamy, and leaves my skin feeling refreshed. It’s also not scented, so it doesn’t irritate my skin. I appreciate this packaging because it’s a low waste option with compostable cardboard packaging.

3. Serum

My skin is super dry, so I need all the moisture I can get. The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 is a hydrating serum that pulls moisture from the air and adds it to the skin. This product gives me the extra moisture my skin needs after cleansing. Plus, a little goes a long way (2-3 drops is all I need). I’ve noticed the best results when applying to damp skin.

4. Moisturizer

Like I mentioned earlier, my skin is really dry, so hydrating, rich moisturizers like Kinship’s Supermello Hydrating Gel-Cream Moisturizer work well for me. This product smells like a marshmallow – which is a nice surprise. The beautiful blue jar is made from recycled Ocean Waste Plastic and post-consumer recycled materials. You can actually scan a qr code located on the bottle to find out where the plastic came from. The product is not too light and not too heavy – and feels amazing on the skin.

5. Sunscreen

Supergoop’s Cloud 9 100% Mineral Sun Balm SPF 40 is a creamy, rich, reef-safe sunscreen that nourishes the skin. I love that it comes in an aluminum tin. I use this product as sunscreen, but technically it’s also a balm, so it’s safe to use on chaffing, dry, and/or irritated skin. This product feels more moisturizing than the watery sunscreens I’m used to.
